As finals week nears, students are preparing for exams.

Michelle Garcia, a senior from Memphis, said she normally has more exams than papers during the week of finals.

"I usually go to the library the night before the day of the exam and I will stay there for hours studying for that one test," Garcia said. She said she takes a lot of study breaks because she gets bored when studying for a long time.

"City Café is always my favorite place to go when it is 3 a.m. and I need some brain food," Garcia said.

Lorinda Powers, a junior from Chattanooga, said she is taking 18 hours this semester, and she only has to take three final exams.

"Unfortunately, I have to take all three exams on the same day, which will be the last day of school," Powers said. "I am going to make a study guide for each exam two weeks before and read them everyday."

She said since she is an adult student with two kids and a job, she finds this method more effective than staying up all night the night before.

"This girl has to have her sleep," Powers said.

Hasan Hamadeh, a junior from Memphis, said he usually has exams instead of papers, which he thinks is a good thing.

"I normally have final exams in all of my classes, but this semester I have a couple of classes that I don't have to take the final in," Hamadeh said. "When it comes to final time I usually stay up all night studying, especially when the library is open 24 hours."

Hamadeh said he likes to drink a lot of energy drinks to help keep him going and to pull all nighters.

Scott Brich, a senior from Memphis, said most of his final exams are essay questions because he is taking mostly Economics classes.

He said he usually studies in the library because if he stays in his room he will watch T.V. instead.

"I usually study the night before the final with some of my classmates and average around four hours of sleep a night during final week," Brich said.

Wendy Roth, professor in the college of business, said her advice for students is what she tells herself.

"Get a good nights sleep the night before the test, do the problems you know first, and then come back and try to relax and not stress out during the test," Roth said.
