Patti Phillips, a junior from Goodlettsville, Tenn., is the first student at UTC to receive the Undergraduate Interfraternity Internship.

According to www.nicindy.org, Undergraduate Interfraternigy Internshp is a five day program that allows chosen sorority and fraternity members to gain new leadership skills and learn different ways to benefit their chapters and communities.

Phillips said she is a member of Alpha Delta Pi and did not realize she was the first student on campus to be accepted for the internship.

"I just felt humbled and honored to even be chosen," Phillips said. "It is definitely an accomplishment that I am incredibly proud of, and it's nice to share that with my community and the people that I have had the privilege of learning from within the past couple of years."

Phillips said she hopes she can be an example and someone that inspires her sisters to set goals and not stop until they reach them.

"I also want to show my sisters that I did my best to live my values and my ritual every day," Phillips said.

Phillips said from this experience she hopes to give back to a program that taught her a tremendous amount about herself and her organization.

"I also hope to gain some new friendships and a better understanding of my values and myself even more so then I have already," Phillips said.

Sara Jahansouz, assistant dean of students, said there were more than 150 students from across North America who applied for the internship but only 16 were placed.

"Serving as an intern for Undergraduate Interfraternity Internship is a wonderful opportunity for Patti to continue to explore the development of her leadership skills," Jahansouz said. "UTC is very proud to have students like Patti serving in highly sought after roles within fraternity and sorority life in North America."

Lindsey Jones, a junior from Franklin, Tenn., and member of Alpha Delta Pi, said she and her sorority sisters are proud of Phillips for being chosen for an opportunity to represent UTC and Alpha Delta Pi.

"Patti is an amazing leader and we are honored to have her in our sorority," Jones said. "Patti will be able to take the knowledge she gains at her UIFI internship and bring it back to the chapter."
