The Black Student Alliance is making their annual Thanksgiving event even bigger this year, Ciera Conley, vice president of the Black Student Alliance and a Memphis sophomore, said.
"Last year it was called the Taste of Soul and it was just a little taste of the food," Conley said. "Now, we're doing a feast, the whole dinner, and it's going to be called the Pre-Thanksgiving Feast."
The food will be cooked by members of the Black Student Alliance, and served in the Chickamauga Room from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 19, Conley said.
"Last year we had a great turnout but we ran out of food," she said. "This year we decided to make it bigger because we had a lot of people asking, 'Could you guys have more food? Could you guys make it a big, big event?' So we decided to do that."
"We will have different varieties of ham, turkey, dressing and pretty much all the Thanksgiving foods," Christopher Nash, a sophomore from Memphis, Tenn., said. "Also peach cobbler and a lot of sweet potato pies, things like that."
Nash said the Black Student Alliance Pre-Thanksgiving Feast will also throw in some vegetables into the selection as well.
"Basically, it will be just as if we were all at home together, networking with one another, talking and basically getting to know everyone," Conley said.
Nash said the Black Student Alliance is hoping to make a name for itself on campus.
"I know the organization is known, but we want to get known as being a big organization such as ACE and SGA," he said. "And we just want to get everyone to participate. It doesn't matter who you are, just as long as you want to help the community out."
There is no charge for the event but the group will be accepting canned goods as a donation for the homeless, Nash said.
Conley said, "If we can feed the campus hopefully they will do the same thing for the unfortunate people, as well. We're trying to help the help them out so they will want to help other people out as well."
