After a slow start in the first round of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate tournament, the UTC Mocs golf team rebounded, rallying on the second day for an eighth-place finish.
The Mocs found themselves in 18th place after the first day, a day in which no Moc shot better than Stephan Jaeger's 2-over par 73.
The rest of the UTC's day one scores included a 75 from Derek Rende, from Soddy-Daisy, Tenn., 76's from senior Fredrik Qvicker and freshman Simon Forsslund, both from Stockholm, Sweden, and an 80 from freshman Steven Fox, from Hendersonville, Tenn.
The second and final round was much different for the Mocs as each player significantly bettered their first day scores.
Perhaps no player improved nore from the first to second rounds as much as Qvicker.
After a first day five-over par, he went eagle, birdie, birdie in a red-hot, three-hole span on the back nine on day two en route to carding a second round score of 67, an impressive nine strokes better than his first round score.
The Mocs also got stellar play from Stephan Jaeger, from Munich, Germany, on day two.
Jaeger carded seven birdies in the second round including three in a row, and shot 66, which moved him to three-under par for the tournament, good enough for a fourth place finish. The Hummingbird Intercollegiate was the Mocs final tournament of the fall season.
UTC will not return to action again until February when they travel to Gainesville, Fla. for the SunTrust Gator Invitational.
