The Student Government Association's Student Senate is gearing up for this semester's round of SGA elections.

Senators confirmed the appointment of Hitesh Vashi, a junior from Chattanooga, as the commissioner of elections. Serving with Vashi on the elections commission, are Jeff Bogue and Christina Brosius a junior from Brentwood, Tenn.

The Senate also approved the elections packet as presented by Parliamentarian Laura Cagle, a junior from Dandridge, Tenn.

Cagle said election packets will be available in the Student Development Office beginning Oct. 28.

Informational meetings will be held Nov. 4 and 5 for students interested in running for a seat on the Student Senate.

President Tyler Forrest, senior, Athens, Tenn., and Senator Kim Swift, sophomore, Germantown, Tenn., petitioned for SGA Senators' support in a venture to "Paint the Town Blue and Gold."

The River City Company, UTC Athletics, and SGA are sponsoring the decoration of local business storefronts in UTC colors to drum up support for this weekend's Blue and Gold Tip-off basketball game.

Student Athletics Chair, Brooke Butler, a Chattanooga sophomore gained Senators' financial support for 500 T-shirts to be given to the first 500 students at the event.

Porscha Boyd, a Memphis senior, talked about this weekend's Fright Fest Friday night.

The Association for Campus Entertainment and SGA will show the movie The Orphan at 8 p.m., and Saturday night, a scavenger hunt will kick off at 10 p.m. at Benwood Auditorium.

Sara Marczynski, a Chattanooga senior, spoke to SGA on behalf of Chi Omega Philanthropy about the Make-A-Wish Foundation need.

This year, because of economic difficulties, Make-A-Wish is unable to send a child to Hawaii Marczynski said. Chi Omega's goal is to raise $8,000 to support Make-A-Wish.

The first fundraiser, Walk for Wishes, will be held Nov. 8 at the Amnicola Riverpark.

The second, a chili cookoff, will be held Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. in front of McKenzie Arena.

Marczynski asked for SGA support through participation in both events.
