Students who missed homecoming banners last week finally found school spirit.
"Students know it's homecoming week when they walk down Cardiac Hill and see the banners in front of the University Center," Edwin Feagins, a sophomore from Nashville, Tenn., said.
Caitlin Anderson, a junior from Chattanooga, Tenn., said, banners were not the only thing missing from this year's homecoming.
"The banners aren't hung on the UC building and the atmosphere isn't as energetic as last year," she said.
Madison Ralston, assistant director for students activities, said, "The banners couldn't be hung until Wednesday due to the large amounts of rain."
The banners that student organizations decorate are usually hung on the first day of homecoming week, which was Sept. 21, but they were not hung until Sept. 23, Ralston said.
The rainy weather may have caused some students to not participate in homecoming activities such as Lip Sync and field games.
On Sept. 21, recording artist
Jeremih and the Whild Peach band for Outkast performed a homecoming concert at the Mckenzie Arena. Over 300 people came to the concert that jump started homecoming week.
According to the UTC Web site, some events had to move locations due to the weather.
A pep rally was originally planned to take place in outside the UC, but it moved to the Tennessee Room inside the UC. In addition, field games which took place outside at Student Park were stopped early because of the rain.
Ace Lip Sync Competition was also moved to the Macclellan Gym. Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity won the Lip Sync Competition performing the song "Moc in a Box."
Max Bennett, a senior from Albans, VT., said, "It was important for us to do well in Lip Sync because it sets the tone for the whole week."
Some students may not have been aware some of the event locations changed and missed certain activities.
Ralston said: "It's exciting to see smaller organizations participate in homecoming it bring a new energy to the activities. Homecoming is for all students on campus not just greeks."
This homecoming had a larger amount of organizations participating in field games than last year.
The rain stopped just in time for the Golf Cart Parade. Organizations like SGA and Resident Hall Association displayed their school spirit by with decorated golf cards.
Only seven organizations participated in the Step Show.
However, this year a non greek organization stepped for the first time.
