This week's Student Government Association meeting focused on Homecoming preparation and the UTC Pink Symposium.
Along with several other Homecoming week events that SGA sponsored, they passed bills in preparation for tailgating at Saturday's game.
SGA purchased three tents for tailgating, which will be given to Campus Recreation to be rented by groups for future tailgating events.
SGA along with the Association for Campus Entertainment, Freshman Senate and the University chapter of the NAACP will open their collective tailgating festivities to the entire student body.
SGA vice president Andrew Clark, a junior from Manchester, Tenn., said all students are invited to tailgate with SGA.
"It is an effort to make everyone feel like they have a home at Homecoming," Clark said.
Carol Oglesby, coordinator of student civic engagement and health promotion, spoke to senators to promote the upcoming UTC Pink Symposium Oct. 15 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Oglesby said because breast cancer is increasing among young women ages 19 to 25, the event is an important way to raise awareness in the student body
Oglesby said students can see the city as a whole while having a little fun at the same time.
Along with the education aspect of the event, attendees will participate in an attempt to break the Guiness World Record for the largest human pink ribbon.
Oglesby said anyone interested in volunteering to help with the event should contact Oglesby at Carol-Oglesby@utc.edu.
SGA will also sponsor a bus to the Tomato Olympics in Athens, Tenn., Sunday.
The sign up sheet is located in the Student Development Office.
This event will center around a tomato fight that pits UT Knoxville against The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and benefits the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.
In other business, senators announced that the Original Butt Sketch Artist will be in the UC Oct. 5 from 1p.m. to 5 p.m.
The artist will be doing free work for students.
