Students from across Tennessee will come together for the Tennessee Federation of College Democrats at UTC Sept. 12.
"As a political scientist, I am always pleased to see students take an active interest in how our country is governed," Chancellor Roger Brown said.
Stacy Richardson, a Chattanooga senior said, "The Tennessee Federation of College Democrats of America is a group designed to unite, lead and coordinate chapters of College Democrats of America on university campuses throughout Tennessee."
Richardson said the goal of the conference is to provide an opportunity for college democrats across the state to learn about College Democrats Association, as well as to network with other chapters.
Richardson said, "The conference is also a place for members of other chapters to receive critical training from the state party."
"This training will be very useful throughout the 2010 Governor's race."
Brown said: "The UTC College Democrats [and other such organizations] can help to keep students involved in the crucial issues facing all of us. Their attendance at the Tennessee Federation is a very good thing."
Richardson said: "Even if you are not a registered Democrat, there are still…a lot of interesting things going on at the conference.
"So much of the media is dominated by national politics."
She said,"This conference is a good chance for you to experience what it is like to work on local and state issues with people who have the same principles."
The Tennessee Federation of College Students will be Sept. 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with check-in in the Chickamauga Room.
