Ready for action: The men's tennis team has struggled through conference play, but got a 6-1 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan April 14.

The Chattanooga Men's Tennis team made up for their Southern Conference loss over the weekend with a commanding victory over Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday.

The Mocs traveled to Boone. N.C. on Saturday to take on Appalachian State. The Mountaineers defeated UTC 6-1 but senior Peter Sauska, Budapest, Hungary, took his third straight conference win.

Sauska defeated Bobby Lake of Appalachian State in their No.1 singles matchup. Lake picked up the first set 6-3, but Sauska was able to claim the next two sets 6-4.

The Mocs were not able to win the following singles competitions, but Sauska got another taste of victory in doubles play. Sauska and fellow senior Pavel Vostrikov, Orenburg, Russia, defeated ASU's Lake and Lee Floyd in the No. 1 doubles match.

Despite Sauska and Vostrikov's victory, Chattanooga was not able to capture the doubles point after losing both the No. 2 and No. 3 spot doubles matches.

On Tuesday, the Mocs welcomed the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs and got back on the right track with a non-conference victory.

The Mocs swept the doubles matches to receive the doubles point, and only lost the No. 3 match to defeat the Bulldogs with a final team score of 6-1.

With this win, the men improve to 2-16 overall, but still are winless in the SoCon with a conference record of 0-9.

Chattanooga will host Georgia Southern Saturday in the last home match of the season. Play will begin at noon and seniors Sauska and Vostrikov will be honored prior to the match.

Both seniors are completing their second year at UTC after transferring, but have enjoyed success in doubles play together in 2009, winning ten of the 15 matches in which they were grouped together.
