The UTC club baseball team has been set back in tournament play due to inclement weather.

Competition has been set on hold for the team as games against the University of Tennessee at Knoxville have been rained out the past two weekends.

The games against UTK were supposed to be a chance for the team to rebound from tough losses to No. 13 Clemson. The team loss twice to the Tigers, and Clemson moved to 12-4 on the season.

The UTC club baseball team is now 9-6 on the season, 5-1 in South Atlantic Conference western conference play after taking two of three games from Middle Tennessee State University in February and receiving three forfeited wins from Vanderbilt, April 4.

However, Alex Craw - president and founder of the club baseball team - said he is proud of how his team is playing, especially with all the young athletes on the team.

"The club has had many young players step up in the last few weeks," Craw said in an e-mail. "Colton Green and Chad lee have had a few great starts on the mound."

Chattanooga freshmen Colton Green and Chad Lee have demonstrated consistent pitching skills this season.

The club baseball team also boasts an all freshman-starting outfield. New to the team are freshmen Alex Watson, Chattanooga, Brandon Pemberton, Knoxville, and Derek Moore, Nashville.

The university club baseball team next faces off against Tennessee Temple at Engel Stadium, 5 p.m. April 13. Admission is free to students.

Next, the team goes head-to-head against Appalachian State in Boone, N.C., April 17-18.

"If the Mocs can win the series, they are almost sure of a postseason sending them to the South Atlantic Regional Tournament," Craw said.

The tournament is scheduled for May 8-10 in Columbus, Ga.
