Asher Roth, an upcoming hip-hop artist from Pennsylvania began rapping when he was in tenth grade.
His parents were fans of bands like The Temptations and Bruce Springsteen, and Roth did not fall in love with hip-hop until 1998 when he heard a song by Jay-Z.
Roth recorded some of his music in high school and after selling 250 copies in two days he accepted the fact that he could have a future in hip-hop.
The 23-year-old rapper was discovered by Scooter Braun after putting his tracks on Myspace and sending Braun a friend request.
Schoolboy Records immediately flew Roth to Atlanta and signed him as the label's first artist off of Myspace.
Roth has the number one most downloaded mixed tape in the country, "The Greenhouse Effect," released in 2008.
Roth keeps it light in his single "I Love College," now available
on iTunes. The lyrics in "I Love College" give a false portrayal of what college is actually like.
Although the song's beat is pleasing, his lyrics may be offensive to some.
Steve Rifkind, founder and chairman of the Street Records Corporation label, commented Roth has the best lyrics he has seen in ten years on Roth's Myspace page.
Roth has become very popular on Myspace, and his debut album, "Asleep in the Bread Aisle," will be released April 2009.
