Members of the Student Goverment Association discussed the student technology fee, the wrangling of a renowned poet, planning of campus events and the designation of new student organizations.

SGA officials passed a resolution cementing the senate's opinion on the matter of the student technology fee.

The resolution dealt specifically with the $10 printing allowance allocated to students at the beginning of each semester. This money is deposited into each student's Mocs card account at the beginning of each semester to allow students to print 100 pages at ten cents per page.

According to the SGA resolution, this printing fee is double what students at University of Tennessee at Knoxville and East Tennessee State University are charged for printing.

To remedy this, the SGA resolution requests the cost of printing be reduced to five cents per page, with a semesterly allocation of $5 for printing per semester.

If SGA's resolution is followed by the university, the technology fee would remain the same, and the number of pages students can print with the allotted money would remain the same.

Most important for students, however, is the lowered cost of printing per page; as technology improves across campus, more teachers are requiring students to print: readings, documents and other things.

The lowered cost of printing will provide a cushion for students who are already facing the rising cost of books and living.

Kristopher Davis, a representative from the MultiCultural Center, visited the SGA meeting to update the senators on events underway at the second floor offices.

SGA met Davis' request to give the MultiCultural Center with $4,000 to go towards the center's $15,000 goal for funds needed to bring poet Nicki Giovanni to speak March 26. Davis said, "[Giovanni] is one of the most brilliant people we could possibly get."

Entertainment committee chair Porscha Boyd announced that her committee had come to an agreement about plans for this year's Appolo Night, to be held March 18 in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Center.

Sign-ups will be February 16 to 20th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the UC.

During this meeting the Anime Club and the Classics Club were added to the list of official student organizations.
