The Lady Mocs took on in-state rival Middle Tennessee State University at the Hixson Racquet Club and the men played two matches at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational in Richmond, Ky. last weekend.
The UTC tennis teams swept the doubles matches but were unable to keep up in singles play.
The Lady Mocs, 2-2, were defeated 4-3 by the MTSU Blue Raiders, Friday.
The matches were close as Chattanooga claimed the doubles point. Freshmen Shaina Singh, No. 1, Vancouver, BC, Canada, and Emily Hangstefer, No. 3, Signal Mountain, Tenn., won 8-6 over MTSU's Marietta Bigus and Anna Djananova. Next, freshmen Jennemieke van der Veek, Schimmert, the Netherlands, and Charlotte Bossy, Koekelare, Belgium, took the victory in their doubles match, 8-5.
But Bossy and Van der Veek couldn't hold on to their wins as they dropped single matches to the Blue Raiders.
After a loss by Hangstefer, MTSU was at a 3-1 advantage when senior Beata Knizat took her first two singles games at 7-6(5), 7-5. Knizat fell in the second set 5-2, but placed five more game wins.
The Lady Mocs closed the gap at 3-3 with a win from Singh. But MTSU closed out the game with a two-set win.
The Mocs were defeated by Xavier Friday at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational, 6-1.
The men's tennis team placed three losses in doubles and placed only one win in singles play. Pavel Vostrikov, Orenburg, Russia, took his match at No. 2, 7-6(4), 6-3.
Then the Mocs, 0-3, took on the Eastern Kentucky Colonels at the Greg Adams Tennis Center Saturday, posting a 6-1 loss.
