Since their first live show ever in 1998, rock band Motion City Soundtrack has sold almost 600,000 records and toured all the way from Australia to Japan.

Although Motion City Soundtrack has become such a huge success, they did it without much help from radio exposure or chart topping recognition. Their style is hard to pinpoint or commercialize because it ranges from pop to indie to acoustic, and almost every song uses a moog synthesizer.

The band has three full length albums, and through each CD you can hear the band maturing and exploring with new techniques and themes.

Motion City Soundtrack has a good way of lacing each of their songs with poignant lyrics which couldn't be said in a more unique way.

The five piece band, originating from Minneapolis, Minn., is comprised of lead guitarist Joshua Cain, vocalist Justin Pierre, drummer Tony Thaxton, bassist Matt Taylor, and moog synthesizer Jesse Johnson.

Although I haven't seen Motion City live, I hear they put on an exciting, upbeat show. The band recently played at Rocketown in Nashville.

If you like Motion City Soundtrack, you might also like Jack's Mannequin and Boxcar Racer.
