There has never been a better time to look into the Political Science Club than now, especially with November's general election right around the corner, according to Jessica Barroll, a senior from Chattanooga.

Barroll has revived the club and said the members have been working hard to ensure its success.

"I had wanted to start a newsletter to let students know about opportunities on campus to utilize the college the best they can," she said.

"When I talked to Dr. Moughrabi, head of the political science department, he had told me the PSC [political science club] did a similar thing, but that it hadn't been active for the past few years.

"I wasn't really interested in bringing it back to life at that point, just about the newsletter," she said.

But during the summer the team managed to set up a four-part lecture series on politics as well, Barroll said.

"The first one will be on the Constitution, the next on war issues, the next on the Electoral College and its relevance, and the last will be a debate between the college republicans and democrats."

Jessica said the club is trying to organize a partnership with students at Belmont University so after the presidential debate, students at different schools can debate with each other via satellite.

According to some UTC students, people on campus need to be more involved in politics, especially during such a crucial election.

Christy King, a Chattanooga freshman, said, "People should care more, that's for sure. If I had the time to join this club, I definitely would, but my major is too demanding."

Sara Neill, a Savannah, Tenn., sophomore, said, "I think that our opinions are important because we are the leaders of tomorrow."

Josh Black, a Chattanooga junior, said, "Our interests of and how we view politics now sets the foundation of how we will in the future."

Students interested in joining the club should contact Britta Kindervater at (423) 435-4281.
