Nursing program partners with Erlanger

In accordance with UTC's strategic plan, The UTC School of Nursing has partnered with Erlanger Health Systems to establish the Excellence in Nursing Practice Partnership.
Erlanger has committed $312,865 to the establishment of the Professorship, which will mutually help both organizations.
According to Dr. Kay Lindgren, director of the school of nursing, Carolyn Schreeder has been chosen to act as Professorship holder.
Schreeder will share equal amounts of time between UTC and Erlanger Health Systems, Lindgren said.
In addition to teaching, Schreeder will take a clinical group into rotation and engage students in lessons on quality assurance, care processes, leadership, and direct patient care, Lindgren said.
In addition to UTC teaching and clinical rotation responsibilities, Schreeder will devote time to duties associated with achieving nursing practice goals, and supporting Erlanger Health System's nursing strategic plans.
Lindgren said: "This is Erlanger's commitment to offer baccalaureate support to the nurses in our area."
Saundra Postell, a Smyrna, Tenn., senior and nursing student, said: "It will be extremely beneficial to our department to have someone working with us throughout the entire experience of class and clinicals."
According to UTC officials the partnership has been created to last five years, but an option to extenuate the plan will available if both parties are in agreement.
Erlanger Health Systems provides advanced level hospital-based care to more than 750,000 residents in Chattanooga and 50 other counties within a 150-mile radius.
The professorship between UTC and Erlanger Health Systems is one of many programs offered to UTC nursing students created to provide experience with regional southern hospitals.
The master of science in nursing program has a professorship Memorial Hospital. The Graduate Nurse Anesthesisa program is already involved in a partnership between Erlanger and UTC.
