Over the weekend, the men's and women's tennis teams lept into action as the women took a trip to Davidson for their first Southern Conference match of the season, and the men had two matches against Murray State and Austin Peay.

The men's tennis team won their first match against Murray State Friday night, posting their second 7-0 victory and fourth shutout win of the season.

The men turned it into a seventh consecutive win over Austin Peay Sunday. The team started off both of the matches by taking all three doubles matches to bring the 1-0 lead.

For the singles lineup Friday night, Coach Carlos Garcia decided to change things a little bit to give some of his freshmen some playing time.

But this change had no effect on the results of the match since the men swept all six of the singles matches.

Senior Badr Bouabdellah, No. 1 position from Barcelona, Spain, defeated Yuri Pompeu 6-4, 6-0. Peter Sauska, No. 2 Budapest, Hungary junior, moved up one spot to defeat Hunter Gerlach 6-1, 6-3.

The No. 3-5 positions all moved up one spot to allow Memphis freshman Hasan Hamadeh move into the No. 6 position.

Junior Pavel Vostrikov, Orenburg, Russia, won his singles 6-1, 6-4 over Chris Horton. Rick van de Bovenkamp, No. 4 freshman from The Netherlands, took over the match against Nicholas Ksiezopolski 6-0, 6-4, freshman Robert Diamond of Thousand Oaks, Calif. at No. 5 beat Jadir Semensin 4-6, 6-2, 10-6, and Hamadeh grabbed the match against Mikel Headford 6-2, 6-1.

The men played Austin Peay Sunday morning, completing the match with a 6-1 win.

The only loss that came was to the No. 4 singles UTC's Rick van de Bovenkamp with a score of 5-7, 6-4, 8-10 to APSU's Leandro Tolosa-Zenklusen. The wins came easy for the rest of the singles lineup; Bouabdellah won his No. 1 singles over Lucas De Brito at 6-3, 6-2.

Senior Razvan Axente, Braila, Romania, was back in the lineup, taking a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Leonardo Locatelli. Vokstikov at No. 3 struggled in a tight match but finally pulled it out to take the match against Patrick Puertolas 3-6, 6-0, 10-4. At No. 5 Diamond defeated Jay Wilkinson 6-1, 7-6 and No. 6 Hasan Hamadeh defeated Francisco La Puento 6-3.

The men's tennis team will seek to extend their winning streak to eight this weekend as they travel to face off against rival Jacksonville State.

The women were not as fortunate in their match losing to Davidson 0-7. They will be in action Saturday, trying to find their own win against Elon at the Champions Club in Hixson, starting along with the men at 1 p.m.
