Track and field place 16 at MTSU meet

Both the men's and women's track team finished with 16 top ten finishes along with four top sports in the Valentine Invitational at Middle Tennessee State University.
In the women's races, sophomore Shelley Taylor, Cohutta, Ga., finished first in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:12.72. The women's 4x440 meter relay also finished first, more than seven seconds ahead of Arkansas State.
In the women's 800 meter run, Nashville senior Amanda Alexander finished seventh with a time of 2:22.33. Alexander led the women in the 800 meter run as four Lady Mocs finished in the top ten.
Freshman Lauren Anderson, Greeneville, Tenn., finished eighth with a time of 2:22.53, junior Sabrina Lefort of Timmins, Ontario, Canada, finished ninth with a time of 2:22.59, and freshman Monika Grope, Germantown, Tenn., finished tenth with a time of 2:22.70.
Lefort also finished second in the mile run with a time of 5:04.79. Right behind her in third place was senior Kathleen Turchin, Sugar Hill, Ga., with a time of 5:05.48.
Senior Emily Wood, from Kingsport, Tenn., finished in sixth with a time of 5:14.20 and freshman Jordyn Radke, Whitby, Ontario, Canada, finished seventh with a time of 5:14.86.
In the men's races, senior Michael Mentz, Bloemfontein, South Africa, finished first in the mile run with a time of 4:17.69, beating Morehead State's runner up by a second. Mentz also finished fifth in the men's 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.76.
Freshman Matt Baltimore, Cleveland, Tenn., came in eighth with a time of 1:58.40 and sophomore Blake Ketron, Kingsport, Tenn., finished fifth in the mile run with a time of 4:23.63.
Sophomore David Moore, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, running in his first indoor season of competition, finished first in 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:38.35, while junior Kevin Huwe, Murfreesboro, Tenn., finished eleventh with a time of 9:06.20.
Senior runners Emily Wood and Michael Mentz were recently named SoCon Track and Field Athletes of the Week last week and are looking for more victories for themselves and their teams.
Chattanooga's men's and women's track teams will next compete in the Southern Conference championships Feb. 29 through March 1 at the Clemson University Indoor facility.
