The UTC faculty and staff are resurrecting the old Patton House Faculty Club as the new University Club.

In order to start the club, Chancellor Brown granted $7,500.
The meetings and functions of the club will be held on the first floor of the Patton House, Gavin Townsend, faculty senate president said.

According to Townsend, the money is going to be used to purchase equipment to furnish the first floor of the Patton House.

"I don't think students are going to react negatively to finding out about the funds that were given for it," Bill Prince, executive chair of the University Club committee said.

The organization has applied for 501-C non profit status so the University Club could host receptions where alcohol was served, Townsend said.

Exempt status from the Tennessee Alcohol Beverage Commission, as well as a checking account have been acquired, according to Prince.

Insurance is also required in order to serve alcohol, according Townsend said.

"Insurance premiums will be from $1,000-$1,300, with a liability of $1 million," Townsend said.

The faculty and staff members of the organization will pay for the insurance, according to Townsend. The club will be open to all departments to use the facilities for functions, Townsend said.

"This is a great way to get to know the faculty," Prince said.

Both Townsend and Prince said that the University Club is open to all faculty, staff and administrators.

"I'd like to see the custodians and grounds keepers involved," Prince said.

In order to facilitate UTC employee involvement, Townsend said he created a five question survey for faculty, staff and administrators to fill out.

To further promote openness, Townsend said the committee is diverse.

"The committee consists of three faculty members, two staff members and one administrator."

According to Prince, dues are going to be kept as low as possible.

"Hopefully dues will be as low as $35-$40 and then may be modified the second year," he said.

Besides hosting events for itself, the University Club plans to co-sponsor campus events in the future.

"Down the road we could sponsor lectures, music and arts events," Prince said.

Townsend and Prince said the University Club hopes to have an event at the end of the semester to celebrate the end of exams.
