A special tax-free holiday will take place April 27-29, according to the Web site, www.tntaxholiday.com.
The usual tax-free holiday is August 3-5.
During both holidays, certain school supplies ($100 or less per item), clothing ($100 or less per item) and computers ($1,500 or less per item) will be available tax free.
There is no limit to the number of items that may be purchased as long as each item falls below the allotted price range specific to that item.
Cindy White, professor of management, said she is not planning on purchasing anything special just because of the holiday.
"I might go shopping, but I won't do it just because it's tax free." She said she typically just buys what she needs during the holiday.
Holly Dieken, associate professor in the human ecology department, said she is probably not going to go shopping just because of the holiday.
However, Kelly Griffin, administrative assistant in the communication department, said she plans to go shopping during the event.
"I have a 4-year-old who goes through clothing like crazy and she could always use a new pair of pants or a new pair of shoes," Griffin said. "I love saving money, when you have a 4-year-old, every penny counts."
J.C. Ayers, a Chattanooga freshman, said: "Actually, I intend on buying a computer during this holiday. I have been wanting one for quite a while and I would like to get the best deal possible."
Barret Blankenship, a junior from Ringgold, said: "I don't plan on buying anything at the end of the month because there isn't a big item I want. It really isn't worth the trouble."
